If only fans could just let it go. Jennifer Lee, the director of Disney's Frozen, is now being forced to apologize for the inescapable popularity of the movie's hit song.

"A year ago, I'd meet people who, when they found out who I was, they'd say, 'Oh, we love the songs! We sing them all the time,'" Lee said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter about Frozen's soundtrack. 

The beloved animated film was made popular in part by songs like "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" and "Love Is an Open Door," but was majorly buoyed by the runaway success of "Let It Go," sung by Princess Elsa (Idina Menzel). 

"Now they're like, 'Yep, we're still listening to those songs,'" Lee continued. "I've gone from, 'Thank you,' to, 'Sorry!'"

Menzel's frosty track peaked at No. 5 on the singles chart, beating out offerings from Bastille, Lorde, and Beyonce this past March, following the November 2013 release of Frozen.

After being famously and incorrectly introduced by John Travolta as "Adele Dazeem," Menzel performed the catchy number at March's 86th Annual Academy Awards, where songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez won the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Let It Go." 

The singer herself expressed a similarly apologetic sentiment to Lee's words earlier this year. Menzel, 43, acknowledged the prevalence of "Let It Go," and sent her best to parents who have the song on repeat in their homes.

"I apologize to everyone out there," she told CBS Sunday Morning this past April about the song's inescapable popularity. "To all the parents [whose] children are making them play it ad nauseam."
